In general, surcharges for night, Sunday, and public holiday work are based on the GVP collective agreement, which always forms the legal basis.
However, companies may apply their own internal surcharge rules as long as these also apply to their permanent employees. This means surcharges can vary depending on the partner company.
In some cases, they may be higher than the standard rates defined in the collective agreement, in others lower, or no surcharges may apply at all if the company doesn’t grant them to its own staff either.
If a partner company has no internal surcharge rules, the following standard GVP surcharges apply automatically:
- 25% for night work
- 50% for Sunday work
- 100% for public holiday work
Whether and to what extent surcharges are paid always depends on the specific partner company. If a job includes surcharges, you'll find this information clearly stated in the job description in the app.
Please also note that these surcharges are not listed in the individual job contracts, as only the base hourly rate is shown there. The hourly rates as shown in the app always apply. You can find more about this in the following article: Why does my employment contract show a different wage than what is shown to me in the app?
Surcharges are also shown separately in your payslip (Lohnabrechnung). Payslips FAQ
